Is meditation similar to hypnosis? Can someone accidentally become hypnotized when practicing Sahaja Meditation?

A child experiencing thoughtless awareness
I can't speak for all forms of meditation, but there are definitely no hypnotic techniques involved in Sahaha Meditation. With Sahaja Meditation, the goal is to awaken the inner energy and go beyond the usual wakeful cognitive state, reach a different plain of awareness. This is called the state of thoughtless awareness. But it's not a hypnotic state. You can snap out of it anytime you choose to and your self is intact. Actually, during the state of thoughtless awareness, no hypnotic technique would even work.
What exactly is thoughtless awareness?
Stress and health problems are often due to incessant negative thoughts about the past or focusing too much on the future, as opposed to living in the present. A very small gap of time, exists between one thought and the next. This time gap is as short as a fraction of a second. Sahaja Meditation's technique is based on stilling or calming of the mind by extending or elongating that tiny gap as much as possible. During this time, one remains in a thoughtless state and this provides relaxation. And it's the most important aspect of Sahaja Meditation, with respect to achieving long-term benefit.
Over time, achieving the thoughtless awareness state is much easier - the power of the inner energy that has been awakened acts as a stimulant for this. The flow of energy is maximized during a thoughtless state, which results in a positive cyclical experience resulting in complete relaxation, peace and a feeling of bliss. Thoughtless awareness creates terrific fuel to power you for the rest of the day. It helps you manage everything in life with vigor and razor-sharp attention and focus.
