So it is possible to "fail" at Sahaja Meditation?
You know, I wouldn't want to establish a failure context. Life exists on a continuum. You can always try again. There's always tomorrow. The fact that you didn't feel the energy today doesn't mean you won't tomorrow, or the next day or the next. And there is something to be gained from every meditation experience, even if you are unable to connect with the subtle energy and reach an enlightened state today.
Having said that, I'd be lying if I said that Sahaja Meditation will do wonders for everyone. Yes, you will fail to achieve the experience if you're closed-minded, give up easily or aren't willing to continue practicing meditation. But I think it's important to define what failure really means here…
For those who obtain energy awakening and discontinue the practice of meditation, the energy, over time, returns to the dormant state and they continue on with their lives, but without the special benefits that Sahaja Meditation provides. For those who try Sahaja Meditation the first time and subsequently abandon the practice, the energy may rise briefly then quickly return to its original state. That's it in a nutshell. There are certainly no side-effects of any kind if you discontinue the practice of Sahaja Meditation.
There are also a few cases where awakening the energy is difficult. Sahaja Meditation instructors encounter such cases only when someone has practiced or been exposed to ineffective or incorrect energy awakening techniques prior to coming to Sahaja Meditation. Sometimes, it takes a little extra work to "unlearn" old habits. One typical challenge for people who continue to practice meditation is the time it takes to develop the sensitivity to feeling the energy themselves; some feel it in a few days, others in a few weeks, but a few may require closer to a year.
But in this category, no one is actually failing.
It's important to understand that Sahaja Meditation is not intended to be your typical few weeks of meditation classes that you can take to receive some short-term benefit and forget about, not if you're serious about receiving sustained benefits for life. With any physical fitness program, if you want to continue to enjoy the benefits of a lean, strong body all your life, work is required on an ongoing basis. The same holds true for Sahaja Meditation as well.
Do some people simply seem to be unable to achieve energy awakening?
Yes, this can happen, for example, to someone who previously had some weird teacher who messed around with their inner energy — tried to awaken it in the wrong ways or taught them incorrect techniques. It can happen when the person didn't know what they were doing and trusted the teacher to guide them. Unfortunately, there are some incompetent or even charlatan teachers out there who will take your money and do even more damage to your energy centers than to your wallet. The actual loss of money itself becomes the least of your problems.
People who are totally closed-minded and simply refuse to accept that this inner energy can exist will never achieve energy awakening. People who believe that spirituality is a farce, are always looking for the catch, and believe that someone is always out to cheat them or trick them will never achieve energy awakening. Occasionally, such individuals show up at Sahaja Meditation centers just to prove that they're right and that Sahaja Meditation is wrong.
An open mind and a reasonable amount of humility is a strong prerequisite for the energy awakening; also, the honest desire of the individual to have the energy awakened. If someone does not want their energy awakened, Sahaja Meditation will not work for them. The best teacher in the world can't help them.
